Floor desks: what are they, and what are their benefits?

For most people, a desk is an elevated, flat board at which they sit. It's usually quite high up off the ground, allowing them to sit on a chair and comfortable rest their arms on it. However, recent studies have found that sitting in such a position all day can be quite detrimental to the health. This is because the spine suffers from being in an uncomfortable position all day. In addition, those who sit at a desk can suffer from conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, or even issues such as eyestrain from sitting in the one position and viewing objects at the same level of distance for prolonged amounts of time. These types of desks can also be difficult for those who have particular types of physical impairments or other conditions that make it difficult for them to sit in a chair and work at a desk for long periods of time.

In recent years, a number of alternatives to the typical desk have been introduced. One of these is the standing desk. A standing desk is usually quite high, and is often angled, similar to the desks used by artists or architects. They encourage mobility, and can be a good way to ensure that muscle fatigue and spinal strain don't set in. These types of desks are frequently found in fairly proactive and progressive offices, as well as in the offices of those who are doing frequent close work, such as designers, artists, or even watchmakers. However, there is yet another alternative to either type of desks. The floor desk is a type of desk that has been used in Japan for many years, and that is only now beginning to be used in western countries. There are a number of benefits to using a floor desk.

A floor desk can be great for those who live in a small or crowded place and who don't have room for a traditional desk set up. Floor desks are quite often easily moved, meaning that the user can manipulate it as required. This also means that the floor desk doesn't need to claim a particular area of the room. Floor desks are also a great choice for those who suffer from a physical condition that makes it difficult for them to sit in a regular chair. A floor desk can allow them to sit or lie down but continue to work as needed.
